Ausstellung: ANDREAS MY – »VORTEX«
Wir freuen uns in der 21. Ausstellung des MAM [Modern Art Mosel] Kunstvereins eine raumgreifende Installation von Andreas My zu zeigen. Wie scheinbar in den Raum hinein collagiert, nur für die Dauer einer Ausstellung, werden Wegwerfartikel zu organischen, raumgreifenden Gebilden. Eine zentrale Rolle in den überraschend schönen, farbigen, detailreichen Skulpturen spielt der Gedanke des „Recycling“, der Überführung massenweise vorhandenen Alltagsmaterials in eine neue ästhetische Dimension.
Seit dem Kunststudium bei Stefan Wewerka und Jörg Immendorff in Köln arbeitet Andreas My (*1961 in Waiblingen) mit Zeichnungen und gefundenen, recycelten Materialien. Das können neben Filmstreifen, die er zu Skulpturen zusammennäht auch farbige Pappen und Papiere sein, die Ausgangspunkt für gebaute illusionistische Malerei im Raum werden.
In prozesshaften Metamorphosen des Alltäglichen bearbeitet Andreas My mit temporären, zerlegbaren Papier- und Kartonobjekten Fragestellungen, die in der Kunst heute kaum aktueller sein könnten. Skulpturen und Objekte in deren Entstehung, geduldig Schicht um Schicht aneinander gefügt, die Zeit sichtbar wird. Auch wenn Andreas My für seine Installationen die verwendeten Werkstoffe dabei aus ihren ehemaligen Funktionszusammenhängen herauslöst, bleibt doch eine Erinnerung an ihren ursprünglichen, profanen Gebrauch. Die bestimmenden Parameter seiner Arbeiten sind Farbe und Raum. Die Resonanzräume reichen vom bewussten Umgang mit Material über den kulturellen Wandel im digitalen Zeitalter, bis zur wachsenden Entfremdung von der Natur. In der Tradition der Arte Povera werden Fragen gestellt, nach Farbe und Form, den Grenzen des Materiellen, nach Stabilität und Fragilität des Verwendeten, nach Bewegung und Wachstum (die Ausdehnung im Raum), nach physischer Existenz in einer digitalen Welt; um all diese Aspekte kreist Andreas Mys „Malerei mit anderen Mitteln“.
Die Ausstellung findet im Rahmen des Programms »Sterne des Südens« des Kultursommers 2024 Rheinland-Pfalz statt.

Exhibition: ANDREAS MY – „VORTEX“
We’re excited to present a large-scale installation by Andreas My in MAM’s 21st exhibition.
Seemingly collaged into the exhibition space, only for the duration of the show, disposable items are transformed into organic, large-scale structures. The concept of “recycling” plays a central role in these surprisingly colourful, and detailed sculptures, as everyday materials in are converted into a new aesthetic dimension.
Since studying painting and sculpture with Stefan Wewerka and Jörg Immendorff in Cologne, Andreas My (*1961 in Waiblingen) has been working with drawings and found, recycled materials. These may include film strips, sewn together into sculptures, as well as coloured cardboard and paper, as starting point for constructed illusionistic paintings in space.
In process-based metamorphoses of the everyday, Andreas My addresses questions with his temporary, disassemblable paper and cardboard objects that could hardly be more current. Sculptures where the passage of time becomes visible by means of their patient, layer-by-layer construction. Although Andreas My removes the materials used in his installations from their former functional contexts, a memory of their original, mundane use still remains. The defining parameters of Andreas My’s works are colour and space. Associations range from a conscious handling of materials, to cultural change in the digital age, to the growing alienation from nature. In true Arte Povera tradition, questions about colour and form, the limits of the material, the stability and fragility of the used materials, movement and growth (the expansion in space), and physical existence in a digital world; around all these aspects Andreas My’s “paintings by other means” revolve.
The exhibition is part of the ‚Star of the South‘ programme of the 2024 Cultural Summer in Rhineland-Palatinate.
